The Saxons

Sceptre / Whetstone

Top part of sceptreThe person buried at Sutton Hoo had a huge, very heavy sceptre/whetstone. The main part of it is made of stone and was used to sharpen the blades of swords.

A stag, the king of the forest, is on the top.

A sceptre is held by a king or queen on special occasions to show that they are royal.

Who do you think would have owned the sceptre?

A Saxon soldier, a Saxon king or a Saxon monk ?
