The first village the infant river Thames flows through is Ewen.

Ewen comes from a Saxon word meaning 'source of a river'.

The river Thames in Ewen is only about six foot wide and shallow enough for Pooh to walk across. You can see the weeds and the river bed through the clear water.

Did you know? ....

From its source until Lechlade the Thames is shallow and not navigable (only boats like Pooh's boat can sail on it).
