Key Vocabulary

The river throws the materials it is carrying - sand, gravel and stones - against the bank and bed of the river breaking loose and dislodging more material. This process is called Abrasion.

The material that is carried by a river and then deposited.

Erosion is the wearing away of sides and bottom of the rivers by the force of the water, and material carried by the water.
